Theatre Degree Options

Theatre at USF is fully accredited by the National Association of Schools of Theatre (NAST). Through its curriculum and production program, Theatre offers seriously interested students the opportunity to prepare within a liberal arts atmosphere for a professional career in the theatre or to continue their studies at the graduate level. The BA in Theatre provides students the opportunity to concentrate in design, performance, or theatre arts. This degree, in all three concentrations, offers a comprehensive core of study in theatre while encouraging and developing a deeper knowledge in a specific area of theatre practice.
The BFA in Design stresses professional preparation. The focus of this degree is on the development of scenic, lighting, and costume designers. Students who complete the BFA in Design choose one primary and one secondary area of design. The carefully constructed curriculum culminates with students designing or co-designing mainstage productions.
The Theatre Minor is designed to provide students with a scope of experiences in theatre, which includes courses in acting, technical theatre, and literature/history, as well as practical experience working on productions. The student seeking a Theatre Minor should arrange to meet with the academic advisor in Theatre.
Auditions are not required to major in theatre, students need only to apply through admissions and declare in theatre. Auditions occur in the junior year for upper level acting courses & portfolio review for BFA design students.
