Continuing the tradition of excellence that our audiences have come to expect, the USF Spring Dance Concert will feature the work of (not one, but) two major internationally-recognized choreographers: Ohad Naharin and Robert Moses.

Hailed as one of the world’s preeminent contemporary choreographers, Ohad Naharin, (Artistic Director of the Israeli Batsheva Dance Company), has captivated audiences with his extraordinarily physical movement vocabulary. Naharin is also the originator of Gaga, an innovative movement language that has enriched his movement invention, revolutionized the company’s training, and emerged as a growing force in the larger field of movement practices for both dancers and non-dancers. To learn more about Gaga and hear an interview with its creator click here! USF Dance is proud to perform the rousing "Echad Mi Yodea" section from Naharin's signature dance, Minus 16. The work will be restaged by former Batsheva Company member and Holloway Guest Artist, Yaniv Abraham, who will also be introducing the Gaga technique to USF dancers during his residency. Minus 16 is currently thrilling audiences as part of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater's world tour.

Robert Moses is easily one of most prolific and inventive choreographers to emerge from the exciting San Francisco dance scene. His company, Robert Moses' KIN, performs internationally and his dances can be found in the repertories of some of today's hottest dance companies. USF Dance faculty member, Bliss Kohlmyer (and former Robert Moses' KIN company member) restages Moses' hyper-physical tour-de-force, Lucifer's Prance, which the San Francisco Examiner called "a truly devilish, almost ritualistic whirlwind."

SnowGlobe (Work-In-Progress)

Choreographers: DanceUSF Faculty Andee Scott and Karen de Luna Fors*

SnowGlobe is a collaboration between USF faculty member Andee Scott and Mexican dance artist Karen de Luna Fors, director of Proyecto al Margen (Guadalajara). This work continues their shared interest and research in the intersections of new media, projection design, and the body in motion. SnowGlobe will also be performed in Guadalajara in May 2014 on a shared evening of dance works choreographed by both artists, sponsored by the cultural department of the state of Jalisco. This work is part of a larger project, Laberinto hecho Cuerpo, funded by FONCA (the National Foundation for Culture and Arts in Mexico).

One Drop

One Drop was inspired by the global water problem and by the film titled One Water by director Sanjeev Chatterjee. The choreography will also be presented in Australia during 2014.

This piece is named after my grandmother, who passed away in 2010. She had a profound effect on my life, and her strength helped me become who I am today.

The John W. Holloway Endowed Chair in Dance and Theatre provides these programs with funds on an annual basis. John W. Holloway, a TheatreUSF graduate, has systematically donated enhancement funds to build the Theatre and Dance programs to exceptional artistic status. The Holloway Endowed Chair has allowed both theatre and dance majors to work with renowned international artists in the creation of new work and in the preparation of interdisciplinary stage productions on important contemporary subjects.The USF School of Theatre and Dance is extremely grateful for his continued support.
